I’ve spend pretty much all the 2008/09winter out night-time bouldering both for pleasure (yes I know that sounds perverse!) and to pull together Night Raiders, an illustrated piece published in Climber Apl|09.

Night Raiders is an introduction to the dark art (ha, ha) of after-hours, night-time bouldering. This trend is taking off big time in the Peak District and it was great to get in on the ground floor as it were. This is the way forward, without a doubt, for those committed (and there are those that say we should be!) climbers/boulderers that are on a quest and don’t mind (or perhaps even relish?) a bit of adversity!

I will be writing more about night-time bouldering as well as adding another gallery on this website of night-time shots so watch this space. Meanwhile, here’s the 6-page spread from Climber Apl|09...

The opening double page spread from Apl|09 Climber showing Simon Lee bearing down on Beachball (Font 7a+) at the Secret Garden in the Peak District…

The centre spread from Apl|09 Climber. The left-hand image is a shot of Ako Shillitoe on Fagin’s Ridge (Font 4) at Widdop. The other shot is some of old gezzer (ie me…) on Blind Fig (Font 7c) at Remergence Buttress, Burbage North under the silvery light of the moon…

The final double page spread from Apl|09 Climber showing Paul Reeve on Middle Man (Font 7c), in full winter conditions, at the Secret Garden in the Peak District…
